Boris Tadic says Serbia will not desist from protecting her territorial integrity for the sake of European integrations. "If someone thinks that this pro-European government will give up on defending national interests for the sake of European perspectives, they are wrong," the Serbian president and leader of the Democrats (DS) told a news conference in Belgrade today. Tadic: Serbia won't accept blackmail He also said that while "EU membership is the supreme national interest, this does not mean that Serbia will accept blackmail". Tadic repeated that Belgrade will continue to fight for Kosovo via diplomatic means, and described the cooperation with the Hague Tribunal as a sign that Serbia is guarding her national interests. "I am convinced that the government of Serbia will solve the concrete issues of the citizens and bring needed stability to the state," he said of the recently formed cabinet led by his party's pre-election coalition, that also includes the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and their coalition. Making good on campaign promises, Tadic continued, means that the government will last its full mandate, "where everyone does their job, but also works as a team". As for the political reconciliation between the SPS, founded and led until his death by Slobodan Milosevic, and the Democrats, the president said this is already realized through the cooperation in the government, while a declaration formalizing this reconciliation will be signed soon.
