Arrests of persons rioting during a SRS rally last week are the result of the political will, a journalist says. Nine persons have been detained so far for taking part in violence on the fringes of a pro-Karadzic rally organized by the Radicals (SRS) and backed by the DSS-NS coalition. Political will and arrest of hooligans State prosecution says that it continues to identify the perpetrators of the violence where dozens of police and civilians were hurt, and will press criminal charges against them. Although at first it seems that police and prosecution have reacted efficiently, Vreme weekly journalist Milos Vasic believes the reaction is down to existence of political will to arrest the perpetrators already known to the authorities. But Vasic also said he is not optimistic when it comes to solving previous cases of violence against journalists. As for the possibility of giving reporters the status of official persons, Vasic said that would be an unusual, "abnormal" situation compared to practices existing in developed countries. "I would much prefer it to have a normal situation where we don’t have to worry and look after ourselves during commotion such as the one on Tuesday and before that. I think it can all be done with police's careful work and strict adherence to the law," he said, and added that he is "not sure if he would support the idea". 80 people, including two reporters, were injured last Tuesday. Earlier, B92 TV cameraman Branko Boskovic was hurt while filming another pro-Karadzic rally in the capital. The rioting (FoNet)
