A former central bank governor and cabinet minister says a Radicals-led governing coalition would be detrimental for Serbia. Kori Udovicki, who held a portfolio in the Djindjic cabinet and is now heading UNDP's Europe and CIS office, says that the SRS-DS-SPS coalition at the helm of the country would be short-lived, leading to isolation, but would "cost a lot". "Serbia without EU Russia's headache" "Just as the capital flew in an ever greater wave since October 5, 2000 until recently, so it will, if it starts flowing away, turn into a torrent in no time, while a mere change of the political scene will not be able to stop it," Udovicki was quoted. She also believes the dilemma of whether Serbia should ally itself with Russia or the EU is "completely false". "Without the EU we are only a headache for Russia. Even if we tried to position things in that manner, and I think the election results show that we will not, in the end Russia, too, would give up on us," said Udovicki. "A part of the EU and Russia hold opposing positions on Kosovo, a vital question for us, but they all have an equal interest in solving this issue. It is clear that this will take a compromise, and we have the greatest interest in finding one. It is insane that some people put forward the East-West dilemma," she repeated. Udovicki went on to say that Serbia is "the western-most Orthodox Slavic country", which has free trade and preferential status agreement with both sides, "and one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe". "It is our advantage to be the bridge, and not to build obstacles and turn our back," Udovicki was quoted as saying.
