Albania, with EU and NATO help, will oppose a possible Serbian embargo of Kosovo after independence is declared. Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha made the announcement to Tanjug in Brussels late on Wednesday. Albania to oppose Serbian embargo of Kosovo Berisha explained that he would discuss the Kosovo issue with EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana today. “We are preparing to help Kosovo in the event of a Serbian embargo, and we will coordinate with the EU and NATO in order to alleviate its effects,” Berisha said. “That embargo would certainly negatively affect the Kosovo Albanians,” Berisha continued. “We, however, intend to oppose to that, but I call on Serbia once again to refrain from such moves,” the Albanian prime minister said. Albania, that has announced that it will be among the first in the world to recognize Kosovo’s independence, has offered key diplomatic and logistical support to Pristina over the last few years.
