MUP sacks union leader

According to the explanation, Mijailović lost his job because of the statements he made during a news conference on May 10, when he accused Interior Minister Dragan Jočić of dictatorship, at the same time criticizing the MUP leadership.

The disciplinary commission found that he used his position in the union to make unsubstantiated claims about the ministry, the minister, and senior MUP commanders.

Mijailović, on the other hand, says he was merely relaying the PSS position and conclusions from the union presidency meeting held in the second half of April, when it was decided to go public with the criticism of the police leadership.

Mijailović added one of the things cited as reason for his dismissal from service was the fact he attended the controversial news conference wearing his uniform.

“Perhaps we should remember some earlier statements on uniforms and strikes,” he said, alluding to the 2001 Red Berets (JSO) armed rebellion and then FRY President Vojislav Koštunica’s reaction.
