Announced visit of hard-line Serbs stirs spirits in Kosovo

The Guard has announced a forthcoming visit on June 28, the anniversary of the Kosovo Battle of 1389, to Gazimestan, near Priština, the site of the battle.

The Serbian Orthodox Church also marks June 28 as the religious holiday of Vidovdan.

Kosovo Police Service, KPS, arrested several persons on Sunday in the northern town of Vučitrn, for delivering flyers put out by a militant group, the Albanian National Army (AKSH) warning of reprisals.

“The AKSH is here, we will wait for you with bullets,” the AKSH message in the flyers read.

“Spreading flyers usually is not a criminal offence, however, the message they were delivering was a serious threat,” Veton Elshani, the KPS spokesperson, told Balkan Insight.

The Guard of Tsar Lazar was formed in May on the initiative of a number of Serbian nationalist groups, including The Serbian Veterans Movement and the Serbian United Popular Front.

The AKSH also known as ANA, is a anonymous group of Albanian nationalists demanding the unification of Kosovo with Albania.

It has been blacklisted as a terrorist organization by the U.S.
