The construction of a biofuel-run heating plant in Prokuplje is set to begin soon, reports say. Slobodan Draskovic, director of KD, a company in charge of the construction, says the contract with Public Enterprise Srbijasume on supplying the plant with biofuel needed to generate heat has recently been signed. First biofuel heating plant in Serbia According to Draskovic, the ambitious project will include creation of as many as 50 new jobs, as the plant is expected to become operational next year. “We will soon sign agreements with local institutions and services, which will receive heat supplies from our plant,” he said. Slovakia-based Dekxia Bank granted a EUR 8mn loan to the KD, part of Slovakian KD Ecoenergy Group, for the construction of the plant. Dekxia Director Vladimir Durjak told Beta news agency that the heating plant will use waste wood and other kinds of biomass to generate heat. He said that the construction of a ten-kilometer-long pipeline was also planned to take place in the coming months.
