Two young men have been discovered dead in Novi Sad; the police announced on Wednesday that both died of injuries caused by blunt objects.

Former supporters' group leader, another man beaten to death

The police also refuted media reports this morning that said the men were shot and killed.

The incident happened in front of a tavern in the center of Novi Sad.

Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti named the victims as Dario Rok Licer, and Dragan Jovanovic aka Gidra, a former leader of the football supporters' group known as "Firma," who recently survived an attempt on his life.

The newspaper said the murders, committed using metal bars and crowbars, were preceded by an altercation between the victims and a group of men, while the deadly beating took place in front of the establishment.

According to the report, Licer and Jovanovic both had police records.

In the past, the media said that Jovanovic had 36 criminal complaints filed against him for various crimes, and that he was on five occasions sentenced by a court.
