BELGRADE Cedomir Jovanovic has held a news conference in the wake of an incident that happened in Hungary on Wednesday. The leader of opposition Liberal Democrats (LDP) told reporters in Serbia's parliament on Thursday that "the police knows" who attacked him, his wife and two friends in Szeged, and that he expected them "to react." LDP leader says his assailants are "mutants" Jovanovic also informed the press that he and his wife were well, while one of his friends had his "skull, jaw and nose" broken, and was awaiting surgeries. The incident happened in a restaurant in the Hungarian town, and reports said that a group of supporters of the Red Star water polo club attacked Jovanovic and others in his company. "If I could go back I do not see what I could change in the reaction. I was always capable of taking care of myself... They broke his skull, nose and jaw, because they thought Kosovo and Metohija was defended in Szeged. Those are not Red Star fans, they separated us, those are not people either. When ten men are beating one woman, you cannot call them men. Those are mutants, the human bottom of the barrel that has swept over us and will drown us if we back down in front of it," he said. The LDP leader further stated that he "never made compromises in front of that sort of behavior and that he does not intend to": "People that I clashed with yesterday are a threat to any normal person and parent, (they are) with police records, found guilty of extortion, trade in narcotics, attempted murder and inflicting of serious injuries. The police knows very well who they are and I expect they will act in line with the law." Jovanovic then explained that he traveled to Szeged at the invitation of his "buddies, with whom he swam for Red Start 20 years ago," and who in the meantime brought the club back from the dead - while he "helped them survive, and will continue to help the club and water polo players." Jovanovic said he did not require security, and added that "they (the security) did not serve to him to protect him from such people", as well as that "they would either have suffered along with him or the outcome of the clash would have been even more serious if they were there". "They were fighting like grandmothers, fat and inept. Those are not fans, those are criminals, who hide behind Red Star. The police knows all the names and I will tell everything with pleasure in the court." Asked whether he felt safe in Serbia, Jovanovic said that he had been living "under security" for 15 years, that he had bombs planted under his cars, his apartment and party (premises) set on fire, and that he grew up in such atmosphere, but that he thinks our children are not safe and that this is horrible. Noting that those who behave in this way will continue unless they are stopped, Jovanovic said this was a problem for ivica Dacic and Aleksandar Vucic who should not ignore it. "Those people yesterday were capable of killing anyone and they didn't succeed not because they were tolerant and magnanimous but because were protected ourselves," he said, and added that he heard about "those supporters in Insider and other media."
