Miljko Radisaljevic has rejected accusations that he pressured police to drop some of the names from the swine flu vaccines case charges. Serbia's organized crime prosecutor spoke for the Belgrade-based daily Blic to say that he was not in the habit of launching procedures "under pressure from politics and media". Prosecutor denies pressuring police "Unfortunately, I sense, by the events of the last days, that there is an attempt to politicize the vaccines case, which probably has to do with election campaigning," he stated. Radisavljevic also said that "those who think they will prevent the prosecution from doing its job and launching two additional major cases by attacking it, are very much mistaken". Asked to reveal the two cases in question, the prosecutor said that he would "not launch them in the media", but that the cases, now in their pre-criminal phase, were "close to be finished". Radisaljevic added that he would not guess "who was worried about ongoing investigations". "I'm aware I've made lots of enemies because of the job I'm doing," Radisavljevic continued, and added that "attacks against him and other responsible parties showed that the hornet's nest of organized crime had been disturbed". The organized crime prosecutor also announced new investigations into the health care sector corruption. He noted that there was an ongoing probe related to the vaccines purchase within Operation Crab, which deals with the broader issue of corruption in the sector. The prosecution expects new investigations "because it turned out that collusion between doctors and pharmacists was a significant source of illegal income", Radisavljevic concluded. Last week, B92's investigative program Insajder (Insider) said its reporters had access to a note made by the Serbian police (MUP), that showed that Radisavljevic and his deputy insisted on leaving most suspect in the swine flue vaccines case out of police's criminal complaint. The case in question is related to abuses of office and damage done to the state budget during the purchase of swine flu vaccines in 2009. Miljko Radisavljevic (file)
