A 17-year-old ward of a child welfare institution in northern Serbia on Tuesday afternoon murdered a 34-year-old cook employed at the facility, said reports.

A 17-year-old ward of a child welfare institution in northern Serbia on Tuesday afternoon murdered a 34-year-old cook employed at the facility, said reports. The unidentified teenager is suspected of killing the woman in the kitchen, by stabbing her in the neck. Orphanage teenager stabs cook to death There were no witnesses to the murder. The facility in the town of Sremska Kamenica is known as the Children's Village. The suspected murderer attempted to commit suicide after the act, B92 has learned, but police and medical teams reacted to save his life. According to unofficial reports, the murder happened around 19:00 CET on Tuesday. After stabbing the cook, the teenager went to one of his teachers "with bloody hands", and confessed to the crime. A knife was found next to the victim's body. The motive for the killing remains unknown at this point. The suspect spent the past 12 years at the institution, and according to Director Branislava Balaban, grew up "without exhibiting any pathological symptoms". He was "a good student, who did not smoke or drink, about to finish high school and ten days short of his 18th birthday". Balaban also described him as "very introvert, and obsessed with horror movies". Assistant to the Labor and Social Policy Minister Suzana Paunovic also made a statement to say that the Children's Village in Sremska Kamenica was one of the country's best child welfare institutions.
