Leader of the extremist group Obraz Mladen Obradovic was sentenced on Wednesday to two years in prison for riots during Gay Pride. But he was released from detention until the judgment becomes legally valid. Anti-gay rioters received minimal punishment His wife Jelena was sentenced to one year of house arrest because she is pregnant and two co-defendants were sentenced to one year and a half in prison. The remaining 13 defendants received sentences from eight months to one year and a half. The defendants received minimal sentences, considering that the offenses they were charged with were punishable from one to 12 years in prison. Tomo Zoric, the spokesperson of the state prosecution office, said he was satisfied by the judgment. “We believe it is adequate having in view a degree of the social threat and it is effective in view of the general prevention”, Zoric said. President of the Gay-Straight Alliance NGO Lazar Pavlovic said that this ruling was very important because it was the first one pronounced on the grounds of discrimination against LGBT persons. “On the other hand, it is symbolic because it is below the minimum of punishments intended for such offenses. We wonder whether sentences are adequate to all what was happening on October 10, 2010, the number of injured police officer and the caused damage”, Pavlovic said. Upon his release from detention, Mladen Obradovi said that the judgment was "deeply unjust". “No one can take your inner freedom, wherever you are. Anyway, Serbs always fight for the holy cross and freedom and this battle never stops”, Obradovic said.
