Court confirms verdict to ex-paramilitary

The Belgrade Appellate Court sentenced ex-member of Scorpions paramilitary unit Željko Đukić to a maximum sentence of 20 years for the crime in Kosovo in 1999.

The Belgrade Appellate Court sentenced ex-member of Scorpions paramilitary unit Zeljko Djukic to a maximum sentence of 20 years for the crime in Kosovo in 1999. On March 28, 1999, 14 Albanian civilians were killed, seven of whom were children while the other seven were women, the court posted on its website. Court confirms verdict to ex-paramilitary By this ruling, the Appellate Court turned down Djukic's appeal and verified the verdict pronounced by the Belgrade District Court War Crimes Department. The court found that members of the Scorpions unit, which acted as a part of the Serbian Interior Ministry, forced their entry into the backyard of the Gashi family in Podujevo, when there was no fighting going on in the city, and shot a number of civilians. For the same crime, the Appellate Court sentenced Dragan Medic and Dragan Borojevic, two other members of the unit, to 20 years of imprisonment each, while Miodrag Solaja, one more member of Scorpions, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Back in 2005, the court sentenced Sasa Cvjetan, another member of the Scorpions, to 20 years of imprisonment for participation in the same crime.

By this ruling, the Appellate Court turned down Đukić's appeal and verified the verdict pronounced by the Belgrade District Court War Crimes Department.

Back in 2005, the court sentenced Saša Cvjetan, another member of the Scorpions, to 20 years of imprisonment for participation in the same crime.
