The trail of radical ethnic Albanian Self-Determination Movement leader Albini Kurti has been postponed for the eighth time. Kurti is accused of participating in a group that obstructed officials from performing their duties and is also accused of inciting violence during the February 2007 protests in which two people were killed and 80 were injured. Kurti trial postponed again The trial was postponed for April 28, because Kurti once again did not show up in the courtroom. His court-appointed attorney also did not appear before the judges today. 64 Kosovo non-governmental organizations are supporting Kurti and have formed a group for gathering petitions against the trial, which has received 175,000 signatures. Signatures were not only gathered in Kosovo, but in south-central Serbia, as well as in Macedonia, Albania and Montenegro. It was stated earlier that the signatures would be given to Albanian President Bamir Topi, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and EU Foreign and Security Policies Chief Catherine Ashton. The Kurti case was also discussed by the Kosovo assembly in Pristina, which received a demand for dropping the charges against him. Kurti has not been responding to court orders, which has been the main reason for the numerous postponements, along with the fact no Kosovo attorneys-under the pressure of the public and the fact that Kurti does not recognize the court- were will agree to defend him.
