Radovan Karadzic’s trial will start on Monday, October 26, the Hague Tribunal has announced. The former Republic of Srpska president stands accused of genocide and crimes against humanity against Muslims and Croats and of taking international hostages during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995. Karadzic trial to begin on October 26 Prosecutor Alan Tiger has asked for two days for his opening statement, which will mark the start of the trial. Karadzic has asked for the same amount of time for his opening statement. Karadzic opposed the beginning of the trial but the tribunal’s appeal chamber turned down his appeal. In the appeal, Karadzic warned the tribunal that he “wouldn’t take part in a show trial” if the court did not give him enough time to prepare his case. Karadzic was arrested in Belgrade in late July last year by the Serbian authorities. He refused to enter a plea in his first appearance before the tribunal. Under tribunal rules, this was entered as a not guilty plea.
