Serbian police (MUP) in Novi Pazar say they have identified "two of at least three persons" who assaulted a police officer. Muhamed Kolasinac was attacked in this southwestern Serbian town on Saturday. Off-duty policeman assaulted in N. Pazar "I was wearing civilian clothes when they attacked me. There were seven of them. They beat me with poles and one of them used a pistol. I recognized some, before passing out," the policeman said. Judge Enes Hadzibegovic told reporters on Sunday that police are "intensively searching" for two suspects, identified as D.S., 26, and H.S., 23. "At this time we are determining the number and identity of all the persons who took part in the assault. The prosecution is yet to launch an official inquiry, but the indictment will certainly be related to aggravated criminal act," the judge explained. Mayor Meho Mahmutovic and Novi Pazar police chief Dragan Terzic visited the officer in hospital today, and said afterwards that "energetic measures must be undertaken in order to protect all citizens, including police officers, from perpetrators of violence". Terzic also said it was "worrying" that attacks on policemen were taking part "in all of Serbia".
