Four days after being assaulted, 24-year-old student Nemanja Mijaljevic claims that the police were responsible for his injuries. After initial reports that Mijaljevic had suffered concussion, head injuries and a broken rib, doctors have stated that he sustained only minor injuries. Assaulted student recovering, points finger at police The Interior Ministry has yet to confirm the incident or establish the identity of the police officers involved. No details on the case have been given by the investigative judge either. Mijaljevic is now at home. “I feel a lot better physically, but psychologically, a lot worse. All of this has put a lot of pressure on me from all sides. Last night I slept for the first time in many nights. I have lost 5-6 kilograms,” he said. Doctor Goran Blagojevic said that it was initially believed that Mijaljevic had suffered a broken rib, but X-rays confirmed otherwise. Neurologist Milica Perisic said that there were no neurological problems and that the only injuries sustained were minor bodily injuries. The medical findings in his home town of Arandjelovac were also corroborated in a clinic in Kragujevac, where the only injury identified was a scratch on Mijaljevic’s nose. His father rebutted a police statement yesterday that it had taken his son 16 hours to call doctors. He said that he called three times, and that after the third time, he had vomited and his parents had taken him to the hospital out of fear for his health. Mijaljevic’s father said that he hoped that the police would be held responsible for the incident. Mijaljevic has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and for failure to stop when police signaled to him to pull over.
