B92 understands that a major operation is under way to arrest individuals involved in organized crime. 23 people have been detained so far on suspicion of money laundering. Major arrest operation under way The arrests were made early this morning during a police operation against individuals believed to have taken and laundered money through non-existent or unregistered companies. B92 understands unofficially from the police that the group in question has embezzled some EUR 4mn since early 2007 until today. In so doing they hit the tax payer for around EUR 1.25mn. They used their financial gains for the purposes of distibuting illegal loans, and giving and accepting bribes. The police say that the arrests are the culmination of an operation lasting several months. Arrests have been carried out in Belgrade, Pancevo, Novi Sad, Jagodina and Nis. One of the suspects is a tax inspector. The operation is continuing.
