Zvornik war crimes trial adjourned

The trial of six people accused of war crimes in Zvornik in 1992 has been adjourned since two witnesses failed to appear.

The trial of six people accused of war crimes in Zvornik in 1992 has been adjourned since two witnesses failed to appear. Miroslav Cvetkovic and Miroslav Nikolic had been due to take the stand today, but they did not come to court. Zvornik war crimes trial adjourned Presiding Judge Tatjana Vukovic said that the court had not received any answer from the Loznica police, who were supposed to locate the witnesses and bring them to court. Vukovic said that the court was not giving up on the witnesses and would consider subpoenaing them if need be. The then president of the so-called Zvornik “temporary government”, Branko Grujic, Territorial Defense Commander Branko Popovic and Yellow Wasp paramilitary unit members, Dragan Slavkovic, Ivan Korac, Sinisa Filipovic and Dragutin Dragicevic have all been charged with deportation of Bosnian Muslims, as well as a number of other crimes in the Zvornik municipality. All except Dragicevic, who is using his right to remain silent, pleaded not guilty when the charges were first read out on November 28, 2005. The trial is expected to continue tomorrow with the witness testimonies.
