Gazprom communications representative Denis Ignatiev has stated that the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline through Serbia would create 2,200 jobs. That will be coupled with around half a billion euros of investments, as well as hundreds of millions of euros per year from the pip line exploitation, said the Russian gas and oil giant's official. "South Stream to create 2,200 jobs in Serbia" Ignatiev told Tanjug that Serbia is the central regional spot of the South Stream project, adding that technical documentation and feasibility studies are being drafted for Montenegro and Macedonia as they expressed willingness to connect to the stream, as well as that one branch will be directed toward the Serb Republic (RS). He announced that the South Stream documentation will be completed by the end of the year, when the final route of the pipe line and decision on financing will be published. According to Russian media, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee Alexey Miller held a meeting on the South Stream on Wednesday which concluded that Gazprom is determined to meet the requests of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for the start of the South Stream construction in December 2012, rather than in 2013 as it was planned earlier. The South Stream is aimed at expansion of gas delivery to European consumers. The project comprises Russian Gazprom, Italian Eni, which 20 percent share, and German Wintershall and French EDF with 15 percent each. The approximate value of the project totals EUR 15.5 billion, EUR 10 billion of which is envisaged for construction of underwater section in the Black Sea, and EUR 5.5 billion for the on-land portion.
