Serbian Minister of Economy Nebojsa Ciric stated Friday that the postponement of Serbia's EU candidate status will not affect economic trends in Serbia. “I do not see any way in which the postponement of the positive decision on Serbia's candidate status can affect economic trends in the country." EU ambition setback "won't jeopardize economy" "This is primarily a political decision and it should have been a political signal by the EU. Unfortunately, it did not arrive, but I cannot see any consequences in the economic sense,” Ciric told journalists at the Ministry of Economy in Belgrade on Friday. He said that Serbia has earned the candidate status a long time ago, and that since then it has made much progress in the economic field. One of the confirmations of this progress came at the business forum in Berlin this week, where Ciric conferred with current and potential German investors and was assured that they will continue to invest in Serbia. "Three large German companies - Schtada, Messer and Fresenius announced big investments for next year," Ciric underlined, adding that "Schtada is planning to invest EUR 20 million, while Fresenius has already launched preparation works for the construction of a new factory". "The German companies which are doing business in Serbia have already stated that they do not see any reason for the postponement of the decision on the country's status to affect their business in Serbia," said the minister.
