The current transfers’ deficit of Serbia's balance of payments (BOP) totaled EUR 1.65bn in the first eight months of the year. This is a 15.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2009, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce published in its bulletin on economic trends in the country. BOP deficit up by 15.6 percent The deficit in the trade in goods and services amounted to EUR 3.16bn in the first eight months of the year, while a net inflow of EUR 1.92bn was recorded in current transfers. The trade in goods and services deficit and the net current transfers were down 7.4 percent and 15 percent respectively in the first eight months of the year compared to the same period last year. The financial account surplus was EUR 1.57bn, with net direct foreign investments of EUR 563.6mn and portfolio investments of EUR 67.4mn. Under the heading “other investments”, a net outflow of EUR 144.3mn was recorded.

The trade in goods and services deficit and the net current transfers were down 7.4 percent and 15 percent respectively in the first eight months of the year compared to the same period last year.
