Outgoing NBS Governor Radovan Jelasic said on Thursday that a populist monetary policy expectations would pose the greatest challenge for the new governor. In an interview for the Belgrade weekly NIN, Jelasic assessed that another major challenge was the duration of the current unfavorable macroeconomic climate in the world and the region. He stressed that he had a good working relationship with incoming governor Dejan Soskic, who is currently the head of the NBS Council. Jelasic pointed out that he was satisfied with the state of the Serbian monetary system at the time of leaving his post, reminding of the fact that "every three months, the banking system is put through stress tests designed by the NBS, and has also passed tests conducted in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank".
