The ruling coalition wishes to avoid conflict between SPS leader Ivica Dacic and his fellow Socialist Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic, a daily writes. The establishment of the Highways of Serbia company, which should replace the previously set up Corridor 10, comes as a consequence of the ruling coalition's desire to avoid conflict between Dacic and Mrkonjic, Belgrade daily Blic claims quoting its source from the government top. "SPS clash gets in way of Corridor 10" The daily's source stated that the infrastructure minister was not pleased with public enterprise Roads of Serbia Director Zoran Drobnjak's work, but that he would not sack him because he is also a member of the ruling SPS. On other other hand, the ruling Democratic Party (DS), as a coalition partner, has been pressuring Dacic to "remove all obstacles" in order to, by the end of the month, choose participants in tendersfor the northern branch, and a section of the highway toward Dimitrovgrad, in the east of the country. The newspaper writes that while Dacic could ask Mrkonjic to fire Drobnjak, he chooses not to, justifying this by saying that he is waiting for the party elections in September. "Mrkonjic is the leader of the old, hard-line faction in SPS, and Dacic doesn't want a conflict with him until the party assembly. It's not a secret that he has been working on reducing Mrkonjic's influence on the party members, and his previous announcement that younger officials are needed also points in that direction,“ the daily's anonymous source was quoted as saying.
