Serbia will be sending economic diplomats to 28 cities around the world in late March and early April. Economic diplomat to the U.S. Milomir Ognjanovic said that the main task of the diplomats will be to present Serbia as a place to invest, and to promote exports and Serbian products in foreign markets. Serbia to send economic diplomats around world “Our jobs will be not to sit in offices and send different reports on the economic situation in the countries we are in, but to the right hands of Serbian companies that want to place their goods abroad,” he said. Ognjanovic said that he will be working with the consulate in Chicago, adding that he will show to Americans the potential to invest in Serbia, especially in the development of information technologies, electronics, agricultural production, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food industries, auto parts and machines. “Serbia has other potential which has yet to be recognized, and that is what everyone in America must learn. These potentials include the work force, which is relatively cheap but educated and has a work ethic,” Ognjanovic said. He said that another advantage is Serbia’s free trade with the EU, CEFTA countries and Russia. The economic diplomats will be trained by the academy of the Serbian Foreign Affairs Ministry, Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Economy Ministry and the Agency for Foreign Investments and the Promotion of Exports (SIEPA). Ognjanovic said that the diplomats will be sent to many cities around the world, including Tokyo, Beijing, and cities in Russia, Ukraine, Austria, Germany, Italy, France and Great Britain. He said that there will be diplomats sent to Chicago and Toronto in Canada, both cities that have a large Serb population.
