SIEPA Director Vesna Peric said that Serbian companies completed deals at 2009 international fairs worth EUR 30mn. “We had about 12 fairs at which 80 companies participated this year, which is a smaller number because of the lack of money in the budget,” Peric said. Deals made for EUR 30mn worth of business She said that it is very good that Serbia was able to get USD 2bn in foreign investments during the year of the financial crisis, which is the same amount as in 2008. “Even though it was a year of crisis, Serbia did well in attracting foreign investments,” Peric said. She added that the largest investment this year was the sale of 51 percent of NIS to Russian Gazpromneft for EUR 400mn, and said that the largest direct investment came from the Austrian paneling company Kronospan in Lapovo. “We do not measure the investments by value, but by the number of new jobs,” she said. Peric added that if Kronospan is satisfied with business, it will expand production with another two phases of investments. She added that interest from foreign investors increased late in the year, and that in the last month, there were 35 inquiries, reminding that there were hardly any in the first six months of 2009.
