Deputy Prime Minister Jovan Krkobabic’s cabinet stated that the new draft for reforms in the pension system will be finished by December 30. Regardless of different interpretations of the final agreement between the Serbian government and International Monetary Fund on the readiness of Serbia to reform its pension system, Krkobabic’s cabinet stated that the reform draft will be prepared with all economic parameters and integrated into the 2010 budget plan. Serbia preparing new pension system The goal is to make sure that the pension system will be economically sustainable. The reform draft will include conditions for family and disability pensions, and rights for receiving a pension with a beneficiary time of employment—the so-called national pension. That is only one aspect which the working group for the reform of the pension-disability insurance system is working on, in which union officials and employers are included, according to Krkobabic’s cabinet. Once the government adopts the draft law, the final word will be given by the state parliament, so that Serbia could receive a new pension system by the middle of 2010, which will be harmonized with European standards and tend to the specific needs of the country, the Deputy Prime Minister’s cabinet explained to the Tanjug news agency. According to B92’s sources, the final agreement between the IMF and the Serbian government depends greatly on Serbia’s ability to reform its pension system. Jovan Krkobabic (FoNet archive)
