An agreement was signed in Banja Luka between the Serbian and Republic of Srpska (RS) governments and two commercial banks on Tuesday. The agreement is on subsidizing interest rates for loans needed to purchase non-durables in 2009, including IMT tractors, Fiat Punto cars, furniture and the use of tourism packages. RS, Serbia sign cooperation deal It marks the start of the first phase of implementing the agreement on economic cooperation between Serbia and the RS. Serbian citizens will be able to buy furniture from the RS through loans with subsidized interest rates. The agreement will most benefit agricultural producers in the RS, who will be able to buy tractors under favorable conditions. Thanks to the subsidies from both governments, the price of a new tractor will be EUR 2,000 less than usual. The keys to the first 20 tractors were handed to their owners yesterday, and, by the end of the year, this number will increase to 500, RS Finance Minister Aleksandar Dzombic said. Loans for buying tractors will be available through the Commercial and Unicredit Banks. Belgrade officials, who have successfully implemented similar subsidies on the domestic market, gave certain recommendations to RS bankers. Under the agreement on economic cooperation, shipping will begin of furniture from the Banja Luka Vrbas company to the Serbian market through these subsidized loans starting on Wednesday. Serbian Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic stated that it was somewhat absurd that RS citizens would not be able to buy furniture with the same favorable conditions. In the same way, Fiat Punto cars will be shipped to the RS starting in September. The price of the basic model will be EUR 5,800, and people will be able to buy them on a seven-year credit plan. Serbia has offered the same plan to the Bosnian Federation but has still to receive an answer.
