Delta drops interest in Mercator shares

Delta has shelved plans to buy a stake in Slovenian Mercator and the Lasko Brewery, according to Delta Marketing Director Jelena Krstovic. She said that the company was “definitely not participating in this investment.” Delta drops interest in Mercator shares The New Ljubljana Bank announced on June 19 that it was accepting bids for the sale of 10.75 percent of Mercator and 23.51 percent of the Lasko Brewery’s shares. The total market price for the offered shares is about EUR 158mn, and the closing date for bids is July 10. The bank seized the shares from Infond Holding, used as collateral on a loan of EUR 130mn, which it has since defaulted on. Infond Holding President Bosko Srot is also the chairman of Lasko’s board of directors. Miroslav Miskovic’s Delta had expressed an interest in Mercator’s shares earlier this year and sent an offer to buy a 48 percent holding in the Slovenian company, but the owners refused to sell at the time. According to media speculation, Croatian Agrokor has also pulled out of the race for the Mercator shares, due to lack of funds. Agrokor owns a chain of retail stores in Serbia called Idea. Mercator has an eight percent share of the retail market in Serbia, operating via the companies Mercator S and M-Rodic. According to earlier company figures, Mercator runs about 100 stores in Serbia, employing about 4,000 workers.
