They will seek to confirm all elements that will be negotiated with this international financial institution. Preparations begin for IMF talks The IMF delegation is due to arrive here next week to negotiate a new financial arrangement which would help the Serbian economy. It was announced that the delegation would arrive on March 16, and that the deal could be worth in between USD 1.5 and 2bn. Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic said that officials will present the current economic situation in Serbia to the delegation. “We have to show our fiscal accounts, show the possibility of collecting revenues in the period ahead, what we can relinquish in spending, what we can finance from the deficit, and based on that, we can make a fair program,” Dragutinovic said. The Serbian officials, led by President Boris Tadic, will hold talks before the IMF delegation arrives in order to plan the central issues of negotiations. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic announced that Serbia could propose an arrangement of USD 2bn, which would be used to strengthen the foreign currency reserves. Dragutinovic said that funds from the IMF deal would be used according to an agreement reached by both sides. “It is not us literally asking for this. It is an agreement between IMF officials and the Serbian government. We did not ask to have USD 500mn approved last time, that was their proposal,” she said. “The amount depends on the opinions of both sides, and then a compromise is found. The prime minister said 2bn, I personally think that this much is not needed, but that is an issue for the negotiations,” Dragutinovic said.
