Serbia, Russia in energy cooperation deal

The government has formed a working group for cooperation with Russia in the energy and gas industries. At a press conference following a government meeting, Trade and Services Minister Predrag Bubalo said that Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and his deputy, Bozidar Djelic, would head the group. Serbia, Russia in energy cooperation deal “The rest of the working group will comprise officials from the Economy Ministry,” Bubalo said, adding that Mining and Energy Minister Aleksandar Popovic had presented the protocol to the government at the meeting. Russian ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Alexeyev submitted a draft agreement to the government on December 11 outlining the joint construction of pipelines through Serbia, a strategic partnership to build underground storage facilities, as well as the modernization of the Serbia Oil Industry (NIS). The government adopted a decision confirming the energy budget for 2008, and approved a decision by the board of directors of the Electromreza public enterprise concerning price setting for access and use of the electrical energy distribution network.
