Belgrade-Priština relations "far from normalized"

"We try to have a balanced view. Prime Minister Vučić and I have explained this to Catherine Ashton as well. Our position is based on two principles. The first is that Serbia respects the territorial integrity of each member state of the UN, and so of Ukraine as well. The second is that Serbia cannot impose sanctions on Russia, because Russia never imposed sanctions on Serbia. Such a balance is in our national interest," he said.

Dačić added that Serbia had a chance to experience the manner in which international law can be "relativized" when it comes to territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"That's why we are not fond of listening to Kosovo being mentioned in connection to this, and when it's compared to Ukraine, regardless of which side the comparison is coming from," said he.

"In the case of Kosovo international law was violated and everything that followed after were the consequences of that violation of international law. Therefore, we are not happy when someone references Kosovo in connection to Ukraine," he said.

Asked whether a year after the Brussels agreement he would characterized relations with Priština "normal" Dačić said he believed "we are still far away from normalization," but that there had been "progress in relations."

When it comes to announcements that an army of Kosovo would be formed, Dačić said that went against all decisions of the UN, according to which only international forces can be present in the territory of Kosovo.

He recalled that, for this reason, Serbia had requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, but that it was not held because of the crisis in Ukraine, and added that the topic would be discussed during the council's regular meeting on Kosovo scheduled for May 27.

When it comes to domestic politics, Dačić said that Serbia was currently in a difficult situation and in need of finding the best possible program for economic recovery, "regardless of whether it corresponds with programs of parties."

"Without economic progress there will be no social justice," concluded Dačić, who is the leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS).
