Democratic Party (DS) deputy leader Jelena Trivan has said that the “U-Turn” program, does not voice the DS’ policy. The U-Turn program was launched by the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) and it advocates a need for change in the state policy towards Kosovo. “DS does not support U-Turn program” “It is not true that the U-Turn was designed to secure the current government a new mandate in the elections,” Trivan told Belgrade-based daily Politika, pointing out that the DS was pursuing a policy that had won it its election mandate. She said that the policy pursued by the DS was the most reasonable one and that only the DS gave Serbia a chance for the future, as by taking it toward the EU it was trying to reinforce the country's positions and defend its interests in Kosovo. The DS deputy leader believes that to understand the state policy as the waiver of Kosovo to solve problems was irresponsible, not a bit different than a policy including a waiver of the EU in order to restore Kosovo would be. Trivan said that the DS saw the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) as its political opponent rather than partner. “We think that the SNS does not belong to the parties of European orientation, and therefore do not see any possibility of collaboration, especially not in a partnership leading the country. We will be angry opponents at the new elections, and I believe the DS will be the one to form a government after elections,” she explained. Stressing that SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic was ready for all kinds of alliances, even with Sandzak Mufti Muamer Zukorlic and Montenegrin Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) leader Milo Djukanovic, Trivan said that the DS was not a party that would do such a thing.
