Nibens Group road construction companies decided on Thursday to stage protests again on October 10. Representatives of Beograd, Nis, Vranje, Kragujevac and Vojvodinaput-Backaput firms have decided to hold the protests until overdue wages are paid to the workers and until funds necessary for the functioning of the companies are provided, because, as they said, workers do not have a choice. Road workers announce new protests The road workers also sent letters to Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Roads of Serbia public company Director Zoran Drobnjak, key banks and National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Dejan Soskic, calling on them to help solve workers’ problems. Nibens Group has 12 companies and 5,200 workers. Most of the workers are on forced leave since companies’ bank accounts are frozen due to unpaid debts. The group owes about EUR 130mn to the banks. Nibens Group owner Milo Djuraskovic and seven of his managers were arrested in May under suspicion of abuse of office from 2007 until 2010.
