Opposition New Serbia (NS) leader Velimir Ilic did not rule out Monday the possibility of Serbia entering "a state of anarchy." He spoke in Belgrade on Monday, as his political ally and leader of the Serb Progressives (SNS) Tomislav Nikolic continues his hunger and thirst strike. Nikolic's political ally warns about "anarchy" Ilic visited Nikolic at a private hospital in New Belgrade and said that the coalition around SNS "will try to coordinate further protests." He said that Nikolic was "ready to go all the way with the strike". The SNS leader looked worn out and spoke with difficulty, said Ilic, but although he was receiving medical treatment, said he would "not even consider ending his protest". Ilic and SNS deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday there would be new "anti-regime demonstrations" in Belgrade and across Serbia. "I am afraid the whole country could slip into a state of anarchy," Ilic said, adding that Nikolic "is getting support from across the country, from people wanting to contribute to the protest," that local party boards in Nis and Valjevo have also started a hunger strike, and there is also talk of road and railway blocks. Three members of Ilic's New Serbia announced Sunday they were joining Nikolic's hunger strike, and SNS local board president Miodrag Stankovic and the party's commissioner in the Belgrade municipality of Palilula Boban Dzunic did likewise on Monday.
