The Hague Tribunal revealed today excerpts from the wartime diaries of former Bosnian Serb military leader Gen. Ratko Mladic. The documents are relevant for the proceedings against former Croat Defense Council (HVO) commanders in Bosnia-Herzegovina Slobodan Praljak and Milivoj Petkovic, said repoerts. Hague: Mladic diaries as evidence against Croats Mladic, who is a fugitive from justice, has himself been indicted by the Hague court for committing war crimes and genocide during the 1992-95 war in Bosnia. Praljak and Petkovic, along with other leaders of Bosnian Croats, are charged with war crimes against Muslims in Bosnia committed from 1993 until 1994, and the Hague Prosecutor's Office (OTP) suggested that Mladic's wartime notes should be used as evidence against them. Along with the motion asking that the notes be included in the evidence, the OTP submitted scanned pages of the diary that include Mladic's description of Praljak and Petkovic's meetings and talks, and mention former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic, first president of Republika Srpska Radovan Karadzic and former head of Serbia's State Security Service Jovica Stanisic. In his handwritten notes, Mladic describes meetings of officials that he attended, quotes their short and incomplete statements and mentions place and time of the meetings. The Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) seized the diaries in the Belgrade apartment of Mladic's wife Bosiljka on February 23 and submitted them to the Hague prosecution. The prosecution believes that the diaries contain authentic notes of Mladic, adding that it is in the interest of justice to take them as evidence. The prosecution requested last week that 18 wartime diaries of Mladic be included in the evidence against Jovica Stanisic and his assistant Franko Simatovic, as well as former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic.
