The opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) requested a parliament debate on the government's negotiations with the IMF. The recently concluded negotiations concerned of the second revision of a stand-by loan arrangement. DSS want debate on IMF deal DSS spokesman Andreja Mladenovic told a news conference in Belgrade on Monday that "taking out a EUR 3bn loan is not a small thing to do" and that the Constitution envisages that the parliament should vote on such agreements. "It makes no sense that taking out such a loan does not require a parliament debate and its permission. It is not as if Boris Tadic and Mladjan Dinkic are to be indebted, but rather the country and future generations, unfortunately," Mladenovic said. Stressing that parliament and MPs have no valid information on negotiations with the IMF, Mladenovic assessed that it is necessary to "end the secrecy in order to determine in what ways the government is getting into debt and why". "The government is taking out loans from commercial banks, it is getting additionally indebted with the IMF, and at the same time, by the unilateral implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, for which there is no request from the EU, it is losing over RSD 30bn from the budget," Mladenovic said.
