Wolfram Maas says that he still sees a chance of Belgrade and Pristina reaching an agreement regarding Kosovo. “I hope that the two sides will find common ground, and we, as the EU, will do everything we can to convince the two sides that a compromise is the best solution for the conflict,” Maas told the Beta news agency in Novi Sad yesterday. German ambassador hopes for Kosovo compromise He added that the EU was in agreement that a compromise needed to be sought and was the best answer. “If there is no compromise, which I hope will not be the case, then all discussions will be within the domain of pure speculation, which I would not want to get into,” Maas said. He said that whatever happened after December 10, the EU would be able to take responsibility for the region. Maas said that Kosovo and Republic of Srpska (RS) were not related, as Serbian officials have suggested. “I trust that Serbia, as a signatory of the Dayton Accords, will do everything it can to respect this agreement,” Maas said. He added that it was “clear” that all countries in the region had made the decision to integrate into Europe. “It must be noted that the countries are all at different stages of EU association, but they are all going the right way,” Maas said.
