Children’s drawings depicting atrocities in Darfur will be accepted as evidence in a war crimes trial. The drawings, featured in August at the website for the non-governmental organization Waging Peace, were presented to the International Criminal Court officials by the group, the Independent reported Friday. Child drawings admissible in Darfur case The drawings are from children who fled the Sudanese border to Chad and show pictures of Janjaweed militia and child soldiers killing villagers. The ICC was presented with the drawings Thursday along with written testimonies from children and adults involved. An ICC spokeswoman is quoted in the Independent saying “Compelling drawings like these are very important and can do much to raise awareness about the situation in Darfur.” The ICC issued arrest warrants for Sudan’s Humanitarian Affairs Minister Ahmad Harun and Ali Kushayb, a Janjaweed militia leader, for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur.
