A member of the Anti-Corruption Council says that the division of the public enterprises smacks of government malpractice. “What’s particularly interesting is the clause whereby one party now retains power over a whole company. Now, complete one-party control has been established over these companies, without any accountability,” Stjepan Gredelj told Novi Sad daily Dnevnik. MPs accused of malpractice He also labeled as malpractice all the perks MPs have awarded themselves. “MPs will probably soon reach a model whereby they no longer need to come to sessions, while at the same time, helping themselves to daily expenses and claiming travel costs, and who knows what other benefits, because these people’s imaginations are clearly limitless,” says Gredelj. According to Dnevnik, all MPs earn EUR 890 a month, while party leaders receive EUR 1050. Every month, MPs also receive a monthly expense account of EUR 380 and daily expenses of EUR 20 every time they come to a meeting. MPs are entitled to free parking and public garages, full travel expense coverage, and political immunity. They can rent a flat in Belgrade for EUR 445 on the basis of a court tenancy agreement. MPs are supposed to pay their rent, electricity, telephone and council tax bills using this amount. MPs/tenants are also entitled to a further 75 percent of their average salary for activities outside of politics.
