Number of tourists in Belgrade steadily rising

In the first six months of 2009, the number of tourists visiting Belgrade increased by 12 percent compared to the same period of time last year.

In the first six months of 2009, the number of tourists visiting Belgrade increased by 12 percent compared to the same period of time last year. According to the Information and Statistics Bureau, 116,250 foreigners have visited Serbia’s capital—staying a total of 352,989 nights—which is six percent greater than in the same period last year. Number of tourists in Belgrade steadily rising “Unlike many other tourist destinations in Europe and the world, which have seen a decrease in visitors because of the economic crisis, the number of guest has increased in Belgrade. Our capital city was visited most by tourists from the region, but other European countries as well, which is a result of increased promotion on these markets,” Belgrade Tourism Organization official Dejan Veselinov said. Since the beginning of the nautical tourism season, 235 boats, with some 27,000 guest and 9,000 crew members, have docked in Belgrade. These numbers are expected to increase by five percent by the end of the season. The number of tourists visiting this summer is expected to increase even more because of major upcoming events in August such as the Belgrade Beer Fest, Madonna concert and the Belgrade Boat Carnival.
