Chief Hague Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte will arrive in Belgrade on Thursday. “She is expected to meet with President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica,” head of the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal Rasim Ljajic told B92 on Monday. Del Ponte in Belgrade on Thursday He added that the chief Hague prosecutor would also talk to members of the Action team charged with the arrest of the Hague fugitives. Del Ponte, whose mandate has been extended until December 31, last visited Belgrade in June and submitted a positive report to the UN Security Council regarding Serbia’s level of cooperation with the Tribunal, after being told that the remaining fugitives would soon be put behind bars. However, she seems disappointed that after the arrests of Zdravko Tolimir and Vlastimir Djotdjevic earlier this year, Belgrade has thus far failed to deliver the rest of the runaway indictees. A positive evaluation of cooperation from Del Ponte is essential for Serbia’s chances of signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU. On Monday, the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal decided to submit documentation required by the Hague Prosecution, and relieve a witness of his pledge of confidentiality. Meanwhile, Republic of Srpska (RS) Interior Minister Stanislav Cadjo confirmed that Hague fugitive Stojan Zuplajnin would be apprehended soon, but denied he was hiding in the region. "None of the Hague fugitives is in the Serb Republic, otherwise the police would have arrested them," he told reporters in Banja Luka on Monday. RS police director Uros Pena also said police were working on Zupljanin's arrest along with their counterpart agencies in Serbia, but declined to provide detail. Carla Del Ponte (FoNet, archive)
