Slovenian President Danilo Turk says that Ljubljana respects Montenegro’s stance on Kosovo. He said that Slovenia had no intention of putting pressure on Montenegro regarding recognition of Kosovo’s unilateral independence proclamation. Slovenia “respects Montenegro’s Kosovo stance” ‘The philosophy of Slovenia’s foreign policy has never been to exert pressure and pressuring is completely alien to our country. Our approach is to first listen and then analyze all aspects of the question at hand,” Turk explained. “Recognition of Kosovo is a question for the entire international community, and that is why it would not be right to have special expectations of a country in our direct vicinity,” Turk told reporters after meeting with Montenegrin counterpart Filip Vujanovic. According to Podgorica daily Vijesti, the Slovenian president said that he believed that Montenegro would “know on its own when the time was right and how to take a decision regarding Kosovo, and that that decision would be respected by the international community.” Asked whether Turk had suggested that Montenegro recognize Kosovo’s independence and whether there was pressure from the EU, Vujanovic replied that he had “nothing to add.” Turk said that Ljubljana did not support Serbia’s initiative to have the issue of Kosovo’s independence looked at by the International Court of Justice, adding that the court dealt with legal matters, while Kosovo was a political issue. Vujanovic did not directly state whether he supported Belgrade’s plans, adding that Montenegro would give its opinion at the next session of the UN General Assembly, when its opinion was asked for.
