Milorad Dodik said that the ICJ opinion on Kosovo hypothetically opens the possibility for RS to secede from Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Republic of Srpska (RS) Prime Minister said that the opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the legality of Kosovo unilaterally proclaimed independence would have an influence on the situation in Bosnia. RS: ICJ decision and secession Dodik told daily Danas that the issue would discussed in depth after the coming elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina, which are scheduled for October. He said that it was believed earlier that this is not the correct path to take, but said that the decision of the ICJ, which has gained the support some of the most powerful countries of the world and a portion of the EU, shows that secession is a possibility. “The ICJ opinion does not obligate anyone, but it does have legal power and it will certainly determine future relations, it is speculative and does not accept or support international law, in a legal sense,” Dodik said. He added that the opinion also shows that there is a strong political front working against Serbia, especially the countries that have recognized Kosovo’s independence. He said that territorial integrity is the basis for international legal order. “Now it is said that a decision which violates territorial integrity does not go against international law.
