EU membership no longer distant dream, says EU rep
Addressing a conference dubbed, "EU and Serbia - 15 years of partnership," Davenport noted that four chapters have so far been opened in Serbia's accession negotiations, while progress on others is expected "in the shortest possible time.""Previous enlargements have confirmed that by joining the EU, citizens of Serbia will have a higher standard of living, and the young more opportunities. Serbia's EU membership will bring direct and indirect benefits to millions," said Davenport.
He added that the clear commitment of the government of Serbia to reforms and EU's support "means that the line of membership is at Serbia's fingertips."
"I am firmly convinced that you will cross over that line," said Davenport.
The head of the EU Delegation also recalled that the EU is the most important trade partner of Serbia and that the country in the last 15 years used about three billion euros of grants through numerous projects.
