It is also not contributing to regional cooperation. That is what European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said on Monday, Tanjug is reporting.

Commenting on the "latest tensions between Serbia and Croatia," Kocijancic reiterated the EU accession process in the Western Balkans, including Croatia, was based on reconciliation, good-neighborly relations and regional cooperation.

"The escalation of rhetoric is not contributing to achieving those principles, which are a commitment as well as an obligation of the entire region," Kocijancic said in a statement to Tanjug.

Brussels's official response to Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic's letter pointing to unacceptable statements and actions in Croatia that are threatening good-neighborly relations is still pending.
