"Germany close partner of Serbia, backs its EU path"

Jadranka Joksimovic said that she expects the first chapters in Serbia's EU accession talks to be opened by the end of the year and that that next step in Serbia's European integration process is significant as it would additionally encourage reforms, the Serbian government's press office said in a statement.

A soonest possible opening of the chapters is a joint interest of Germany, the EU and Serbia, Roth noted.

Joksimovic and Roth said that the Berlin Process is one of the best frameworks for cooperation in the Western Balkan region.

As regards the issue of refugees, Joksimovic briefed the German official on all systemic and operational measures that Serbia is undertaking and expressed hope that a unique solution to the problem will be introduced soon.

Serbia has demonstrated that it has approached solving the problem in an organized manner, Roth said, praising the country's humane treatment of migrants.
