EU to spend 3.2 million for migrant reception in Serbia

The EU will send EUR 3.2 million to Serbia for purposes of migrant reception, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Belgrade Oskar Benedikt said on Wednesday.

EU to spend 3.2 million for migrant reception in Serbia

In addition to this, a decision was made for aid to be delivered to local self-governments to the total amount of around EUR 70,000 which will be used exclusively for purposes of hygiene maintenance in the municipal reception centers, Benedikt told reporters after visiting the Presevo migrant reception center.

Benedikt said that the EU is also preparing a migrant-related project worth EUR 8 million which will be carried out in Serbia and Macedonia.

He also noted that the EU agenda never included the topic building a large-scale reception center in Serbia and granting refugee status to migrants which would facilitate their mobility in Europe.
