BELGRADE Serbia started accession talks with the EU which should send a clear signal to foreign investors that it has become a state ruled by law, says Tomislav Nikolic. It should also send a signal that doing business is safe and profitable in Serbia, the said on Thursday during a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Michael Kirby. "EU talks send positive message to investors" Nikolic stressed that Serbia invested a lot of effort in the previous period to move closer to the EU standards, and so deserved the start of accession negotiations, the president's press service states. Ambassador Kirby congratulated President Nikolic on the success Serbia has achieved, noting that he is particularly glad to see Serbia establish excellent relations with all countries in the region during Nikolic's term in office. Kirby underlined that certain companies in the United States have already shown interest in investing in Serbian economy, primarily in the mining sector. Serbia has been given an opportunity to establish a healthy economic system, and I am convinced it will make the most of this chance, said the U.S. ambassador. (Tanjug) Tanjug
