Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic did not offer his resignation, the prime minister's cabinet said in Belgrade on Thursday. This reaction came after an article published in today's Blic newspaper, which explored the state of the ruling coalition. PM didn't offer resignation, says his cabinet The recent opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) rally caused "everybody to agree that the government reshuffle is necessary", the daily writes. "The ruling coalition leaders are expected to have a meeting as soon as Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic returns from the U.S., and according to well informed sources, changes in the government should be expected by the end of February," said the article. The daily also claims that it learned from sources close to the ruling Democratic Party (DS) that Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic offered President Boris Tadic his resignation "once again", quoting "bad coordination within the government as a reason". But in a statement for B92 today, Cvetkovic's cabinet rejected this as "utterly false". “The Serbian prime minister did not offer resignation to the president, or the president has ever requested Cvetkovic's resignation,” Tanjug quoted the same source. The Blic article also mentions that "SPS has been most actively opposing the changes in the government, but SPS deputy leader Dijana Vukomanovic stated after the SNS rally that the government reshuffle was the most likely option at the moment". “Personnel changes would not undermine institutions' stability, on the contrary, they would be an expression of responsibility,“ she stressed.
